This installment of Next Up is a heavily buzzed about band that goes by the name of Vampire Weekend. Consisting of four classmates from Columbia University, their self-titled debut effort is an unprecedented mix of indie rock, Afro-pop, Paul Simon rhythms, and ska. As crazy as that description may sound, this is a release you’ll definitely wants to let your ears sample.
They have two current videos. Their first release, Mansford Roof:
And the new single, A-Punk:
The rest of the album uses bongos and strings as well as traditional guitars and drums and I highly recommend looking into to these guys. Vampire Weekend is available on XL Recordings.
My good homie Alan who lives in NYC caught a Cool Kids/Kid Sister/A-Trak show at the American Museum of Natural History this past weekend. The lucky bastard was in the front row when special guest Yeezy came out and did his own set! Check out the pics from his Flickr:
Just read some news that Diddy is undergoing yet another name change. From now on he wants to be called Sean John… yeah, just like his cologne/aftershave/clothing line. He claims the name reflects where he’s at in his career and “I have always evolved and taken a different name each time. Right now I want to be Sean John because that’s where I am right now”. Um, what the hell does that mean?
More importantly, does anybody really care what you call yourself? When do you finally evolve back into your government and just go by Sean Combs?
P.S.- I’m convinced this photo must’ve been taken at a Sears Portrait studio near his home back in like ‘92.
