I posted earlier about the creation of the original jean, Levi’s 501. So, let’s say you went by Next and copped a pair of 501 STF. Now what do you do?
To begin, there is a difference between the type of jeans out there. There is “raw” or “dry” denim and there is “washed” denim. Denim is typically washed to make them feel softer, to stop indigo dye loss, and to eliminate any shrinking once the owner washes them. This washed denim is often purchased “pre-distressed” in order to have that worn-in look. This means it already comes with fades, creasing, and designs.
Raw denim has not been washed after the dying process. The point is to wear them and fade them yourself over time. If done correctly, your jeans will have fades, whiskers, and honeycombs based on your own body. It will look more original, natural, and unique in comparison to a pair of jeans that are already distressed. I personally ONLY buy and wear raw denim because I want to have my jeans be unique and different from everyone else.
So, back to the 501 STF. STF stands for Shrink-To-Fit, or in other words, Soak To Shrink. STF jeans are a type of raw jeans. There are a million ways and opinions of what is best when dealing with raw denim. There really is no right or wrong way, so experiment yourself and do what works best for you. After the jump are a few ways to handle your new STFs… Keep reading »
Its no secret Lebron led the Cavs to the best record in the NBA this season and was rewarded by the NBA with the league’s Most Valuable Player Award. To commemorate the occasion, Nike Basketball has released a limited Nike Zoom Lebron VI MVP Edition. The shoe comes in White, Black, and Metallic Gold, with “MVP” stitched near the ankle. Available now at Next.
First I have a great jam by psychedelic garage soul frontman King Khan, and his Shrines. They have a new album titled What is?! that finally arrived in the States on Vice Records. This track is from their earlier release Mr. Supernatural.
Next I have an excellent, and probably my favorite, cut off of Dom Kennedy’s Future Street Drug Sounds. The piano loop just never gets old on this, and the rhymes compliment the song perfectly.
Wired’s Gadget Lab has a running probability sheet of the potential iPhone improvements when Apple launches the 3rd generation of the phone sometime in the coming weeks. Among the most probable features: A digital compass, 3.2 megapixel camera, 16GB and 32GB storage, and the same overall design and price. Also, of course, the ability to compose mail in landscape, copy and paste, and receive multimedia text messages. Can’t wait for the updates!
Back in 1997 when the Nike Foamposite Pearl was released it had a huge impact. They’re set to realease May 29th 2009, the same realease date as the Jordan V Raging Bull Pack. The shoe will be released exclusively to House of Hoops. The Foamposite Pearl has had a cameo in “He Got Game” and was seen on the feet of Tim Duncan and Scottie Pippen! Personally I love them, I think they’re a well designed sneaker!
Comedian Kevin Hart dropped by Next at Beachwood recently. He cracked some jokes, purchased a pair of Supra Skytops, and blessed us with an original video clip.
Last year 10 Deep created a collab tee shirt for the release of Kid Cudi’s mixtape, “A Kid Named Cudi.” Since then, the demand for this tee shirt has gone through the roof and landed on the moon. So, 10 Deep has decided to re-release the tee, and Next at Beachwood will be receiving a shipment. Don’t let this tee get slip away from you.
Here is a brief history of Levi’s and the pants that we now know as jeans …
Levi Strauss first arrives in San Francisco in 1853 and opens a wholesale dry goods business. In 1873, Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis, a local clothing tailor, invents and patents men’s pants intended as workwear. Their first creation, dubbed “waist overalls” featured one back pocket with the Arcuate (Levi’s “arc”) stitching design, a watch pocket, a cinch, suspender buttons, and rivets. The cinch and suspender buttons were standard on men’s pants at the time. The rivets were Davis’ idea to reinforce torn pants. His contribution was to place copper rivets to reinforce the points of strain on pants, like pocket corners and at the base of the button fly. And that was the invention of denim jeans on May 20, 1873. They are known worldwide as the most successful, widely recognized, and imitated clothing products in the history of apparel…
What we have today are Levi’s quintessential classic, which is the famous 501, a modern version of the “overalls” made in 1873. Many things have changed from the 1873 version, yet many things have remained the same throughout all these years. The Levi’s 501 Original Shrink-to-Fit Jeans are are made to shrink about 10%, so size accordingly. These are straight leg, original fit jeans. Because they are made from a raw rigid dark denim, you can keep them this way by washing as little as possible, or you can wash them often to lighten and fade them.
