From The Westside With Love: Ohio City Burrito

I consider myself somewhat of an amateur burrito aficionado, and living on Coventry, I’ve grown a little tired of good old Chipotle. So, this past Tuesday, my girlfriend, our friend Katie and I headed over to the near Westside for some of the goodness that is Ohio City Burrito.

The first thing you have to know is that Ohio City Burrito is not Chipotle. The order they ask what you want on your burrito is a little different, and it’s a little more expensive. Like many of the finer things in life, it’s worth it.

The flavors themselves just taste more authentic and handmade than your average burrito. I got a vegetarian burrito with black beans, fajita veggies, rice, lettuce, two types of salsa and guacamole.
Two points to make about my burrito:
1. The rice was not the over-salted, lime-soaked mess you sometimes get from Chipotle. It was nice, fluffy, well-seasoned that helped mix the flavors of the burrito as a whole.
2. The fajita vegetables actually included more just peppers and onions. Nothing is more disappointing than a mouthful of just onions in your Chipotle burrito.

Katie got a taco salad. I can’t comment on how it tasted since she got sour cream and cheese (and I don’t get down with that stuff), but she smashed it right quick and said it was great. My girlfriend, Michelle, got pretty much the same thing I did, minus guacamole.

They have some homemade hot sauce that I added to my burrito at the table and it was great. It was the kind of thin, spicy sauce that has a hint of bitterness. The salsas were awesome as well.
One fair warning though, skip the tortilla chips. Even Chipotle makes their chips in-house as it’s just about the easiest thing in the world to do, but OCB uses some garbage from a restaurant supply store.

Do yourself a favor though next time you need to get that burrito fix, make the drive to W. 25th and get some Ohio City Burrito.
