A foamposite AJ1? Never thought I’d see the day, but here we are… and I kind of like it.

The shoe consists of a one-piece upper made of reflective foamposite material with a contrasting wing logo and an icey sole. I’m not sure I’ve seen another shoe with the dark blue ice sole that’s on the cranberry colorway, but it’s a nice change of pace from the normal clear ice sole that’s been on tons of Nike shoes over the past few years.

The way light bounces off these shoes is really incredible. As nice as the pictures are, you really need to see these in person. Nothing really compares to an extruded foamposite silhouette.

That clear ice sole I mentioned before…? Yep, it’s here on the metallic silver colorway and it sets it off. This is the kind of colorway that you can wear in place of those white on white Air Force 1s that have been beat like a dead horse. Buy ‘em now or weep in two years when you’re hunting pairs on eBay!
Adam Vs. David is a weekly feature on RuleofNext.com that pits Adam and David against each other in a test of picking their favorite new product at Next. The winner is chosen by you; just leave your pick in a comment on this post. The winner will be announced the following week. This week is the outerwear battle. Adam has chosen Penfield Stapleton jacket, and David picked 10 Deep High & Dry technical jacket.
Last week’s winner:
Adam & Edwin Denim.
David’s Pick: 10 Deep High & Dry Technical Jacket
Let’s be real about this: the weather has been shitty. I know, I know, it’s Cleveland in November, but that doesn’t take away the sting of the freezing rain and gusting wind. But do you know what helps… the High & Dry jacket from 10 Deep!

This is called a technical jacket for good reason. A 100% waterproof polyester body and taped seams and sealed zippers throughout mean no wind and no water getting inside. Riveted vents in the armpits means no getting sweaty on the inside either.

Oh, you need storage? DO YOU SEE THE POCKETS ON THIS JACKET?! You basically have body length size pockets on both sides, plus another pocket on the left sleeve (perfect size for an iPod or your phone or whatever).

Adjustable Velcro cuffs, adjustable hood with bungee, extra high collar… if you can’t deal with the options this jacket is bringing to the table, just hit that little “X” and close the window now because this jacket is all about options. You can wear this as a light addition to your fit on the weekend: unzipped, hood down, cuffs loose… or you can wear this as a serious cold weather shell: zipped up all the way to cover your neck completely, hood up and tightened so it doesn’t fall down in the wind like every other hood ever, and cuffs tightened so theres no wind or rain going up your sleeves either. BAM options!

On a completely superficial level, this jacket has just the right amount of visual detail. The woodland camo is the star here, and the wrist, back, and lower front logo hits complement it nicely. There’s plenty of reasons Complex made this jacket the #1 camo item you need to have this winter: complex.com/votefordavidand10deep

Help me recover from last week’s devastating loss! DECIMATE THE WEAK!

Adam’s Pick: Penfield Stapleton Coat
I like goose feathers and buttery leathers. Lucky for me, Penfield does too. This Stapleton coat is a classic cold-weather piece created from a fusion of “fine leather wares”, Teflon coated 60/40 cotton nylon blend, and 80% goose down/20% goose feathers.

Fashion, function, practicality and durability are the key elements in Penfield’s branding. They must be doing something right considering this year was their 35th year in business, and no one has ever been attacked by a bear while wearing Penfield. To be completely honest, when you purchase a Penfield coat they also supply you with a trained attack bear. That is why there logo looks like this:

If you don’t believe me about the bear, then shame on you, I’m a real nice guy. On a more serious note, the Penfield Stapleton coat is the real deal. The 60/40 cotton nylon blend is coated with teflon. Teflon makes the Stapleton coat water resistant, stain resistant, and bear resistant. The soft leather shoulder yoke makes it a quality style piece. The 80/20 down feather filling makes it a necessity for Ohio’s winter months.

One win last week. One win this week. One win next week. That’s a trifecta for Adam. “He’s on fire!”

Just in time for you to rock before Cleveland becomes a winter wonderland, we’ve received some simple & clean Air Max 1s from Nike.

First off, we have the black/black Premium AM1 with crepe sole. All black, but with special details like a horsehair swoosh and mixed materials in the upper. The real star here is the sole; crepe like a pair of Wallabees, it combines a running shoe silhouette with street shoe details.

The second new AM1 we have in store is dark army/sail colorway. A toned-down colorway for fall, this would go great with some other military inspired pieces in a casual ‘fit. A good mix of nylon & nubuck means this shoe isn’t finished after one wear. You could put a gum sole on any shoe and I’d want it, and this one is no different. Here it offers a little rugged feel to complement the rest of the shoe.

Stop by your closest Next and grab a pair before they’re gone!

I see people everyday wearing washed & distressed jeans. These same people may have not ever laid their eyes on a legitimate pair of jeans, worn day in, day out that are the real inspiration for pretty much every company on Earth making their (usually wack) distressed denim. Instead of sitting in my apartment and whining about it while playing Xbox Live, I figured I would document the real evolution of raw denim.

Meet Larry (from Logistics). He’s the guy who gets the product from our warehouse to our stores. His days at Next consist of packing and moving big boxes, driving a white van, and lightweight rapping. He is going to be the subject wearing our jeans. We’ll check up with Larry every week or so and see how the denim is changing.

Larry will be wearing Edwin SEN Jeans. They are Japanese made from selvage 11.9oz denim. They are a skinny fit, tapering from the knee down to the ankle, but Larry is going to wear them a little loose as per his preference. He is also wearing them a little low on his hips, so there is going to be some heavy stacking around the ankles.

It is Larry’s new responsibility to wear these jeans everyday. It will all be documented here on Rule of Next. Along the way we’ll get into a little denim knowledge such as the history of denim and care techniques.
Today is day 1 of our denim journey, keep checking back for updates.

We just got in some of the Penfield outerwear collection and it doesn’t disappoint. Quality fabrics and materials that go way beyond what you would expect at this price point. We had some of the Winner’s Circle crew model some of the pieces for you. Take a look.

Amari (left) is wearing the black on black waxed cotton jacket with leather details. He is also sporting a 10 Deep tee and Memories beanie.
Darvin (right) is wearing the feather down-filled puffer jacket with lumberjack plaid detail. He’s decked out with a Memories crewneck and Memories beanie.

Here is Amari again rocking the same jacket that Darvin had in the previous picture, however this version has the buttery soft leather western detail at the top.
Leave a comment, stop by Next Coventry or Next Beachwood and let us know what you think!
Shout out to Winner’s Circle, big things happening!
