Welcome to Rule of Next.
Rule of Next is the online counterpart to the Northeast Ohio based retail clothing company Next, founded in Cleveland in 1997.
After almost a decade leading the urban wear market and helping brands like Sean John, Akademiks, and Phat Farm get off the ground, Next owners Rob Rosenthal and Steve Silver noticed a new trend emerging on the scene- skate and street wear inspired fashions and companies popping up all around the country.
With an eye on the soon to be coined “streetwear” movement, Next began to develop a new type of store catering to the sub culture of the urban crowd, with a more stylish, refined, and edgy look. Urbane rather than Urban. Enter Next, the street boutique in Beachwood Place.
August 2006 marked a move from the major urban players into independent skate and surf influenced brands and a shift into the new “whats next.” Next Beachwood opened its doors stocking the likes of Billionaire Boys Club, Stussy, Prps, The Hundreds, 10 Deep, and Crooks and Castles rather than the ol’ urban mainstays of Coogi, Polo, Sean John, and Rocawear.
Since Next Beachwood’s inception, Cleveland has added energy to the streetwear movement, fanning the fire of style across the midwest in the form of local indie labels and sneaker and clothing boutiques popping up around the city.
Next believes the culture of streetwear still needs nourishment in Ohio, and we are out to put a fresh tee on everyone’s back and a crisp sneaker on everyone’s foot.
In July 2009, Next opened its 5th location, an “underground” store in Cleveland’s culturally diverse and eclectic Coventry district. The newest Next store mirrors the popular mall destination at Beachwood Place and provides a new curbside street accessible destination.
Next strives to re-invent and be on the cutting edge of every facet of contemporary street fashion. We strive to be the go-to store for your urban and urbane style needs. We strive to have the next brand that you haven’t even heard of yet, at the same time supplying the staple brands catching the buzz on both coasts.
At Rule of Next, we know fashion is more than just shirts and shoes, more than just skate or streetwear. It’s a mentality, a culture, an attitude. Expect to find music recommendations, interesting news, dope art, and local events, as well as continuous updates on the goods that land in our brick-and-mortar locations.
