Possibly one of the catchiest songs I’ve come across this year, the Radio Dept. single “Heaven’s On Fire” sounds like a fun summer day. Danceable, singable, and just a flat out jam. This will be in heavy rotation in my iTunes this spring/summer.
“People see rock and roll as youth culture, and when youth culture becomes monopolized by big business, what are the youth to do?”
Murs and 9th Wonder dropped a third official tag-team album a little while back and this is probably the best cut off of it. I really wasn’t impressed with this album on a whole because most of the concepts are generic or gimmicky (see: Asian Girl) lyric wise. But, the beats are mostly on point and this opening joint with Kurupt takes the cake. Give it a listen.
Artist Jeremy Dean converted an 8 mile-per-gallon Hummer H2 into a horse drawn carriage. Very dope.
To me, this art represents a dramatic paradox between new and old world extravagance, not to mention a statement on the state of oil reliance in our country. I think pretty much anybody who drives a H2 in today’s budding Go-Green environment mentality, is an asshole. Straight up. They should have their car pimped-out, Jeremy Dean style while they sleep one night and be forced to roll around like this forever-more.
Mark my words- this is 2010′s MGMT. Introducing Delorean, a band from Barcelona who’s debut LP Subiza will be out June 8th. They already have an incredible 4 song EP released last year, and if the full length is anywhere near as strong as that, you will be hearing a lot more from this band in the future. Another track after the jump. Keep reading.
In An Emasculating Truth, Oscar Boyson investigates what it takes to be a man in the 21st century. Statistics say male testosterone levels have been dropping 1% a year over the past 20 years, so Oscar made this documentary short to find out what could be causing it and what defines a “man”. The video is presented by Dockers and interviews some interesting characters such as Glenn O’brien.
Fashawn is a rapper out of Fresno, CA who’s recent album Boy Meets World has been getting a lot of play in my iTunes. It was produced by Exile, top notch producer of Blu’s Below the Heavens and solo effort Radio. This album shares the unique samples, soulful production, reality rap lyrics, and cohesiveness that those albums had, and I really recommend checking it out. Another track is posted after the jump. Keep reading.
I’ve been really feeling the new Hot Chip record lately. For those unfamiliar, Hot Chip is a British electro-pop group who just released their fourth album One Life Stand. The tracks have a head-nodding, dancey tempo, but are complimented by delicate and sophisticated pop vocals. Give ‘em a listen.
